“Now I would remind you, brothers,of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…”(1 Corinthians 15:1-4, ESV)
What is the Gospel? The gospel simply means “good news,” it is the good news of Jesus Christ.
How is the Gospel “good news”?
- Creation – The gospel starts in Genesis 1, “God created the heavens and the earth.” He created man in His image.
- Fall – Yet, man chose to rebel against God by eating the fruit of tree God commanded him not to eat. This caused separation between God and man.
- Redemption – God could have chosen to leave man in his sinful state and be separated from Him forever. Yet, in His love and mercy God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a perfect live and died in our place for our sins. He rose on the third day defeating sin, death, and the wrath of God.
- New Creation – One day God will create a new heaven and new earth. All will be as it was in the beginning. There will be no more sin or death. God’s people will live with him forever!
The gospel is a free gift (Ephesians 2:8-9) that God extends to ill-deserving sinners.
